Remember

Happy Thanksgiving! Let’s just get this out of the way: I have some complaints. This is not the year I thought it was going to be, and I’m feeling a lot of emotions, and probably third from the bottom is gratitude.

When I Sing Along With You…

I’d been thinking about writing a blog about one of my favorite songs, Everlong by Foo Fighters, and I’d sort of forgotten about the idea until I opened up YouTube this morning

No-maintenance Fish Tank

Keeping a fish tank is not a passive activity. It requires a lot of careful action and attention to things that easily go unseen, but are right under the surface. You’ve probably figured out that I’m not talking about fish tanks anymore.

Jesus Nut

“God doesn’t call those who are equipped, God equips those who are called.” I guess it was only just now that I realized he was referencing 1 Corinthians 27-29.

The Library of Babel

So…here is the question of the day: Did I write it? Or did I find it? Technically, it pre-existed me and just waited for me to find it…right? So then God wrote it? Or was it my own reason and intellect that drove me to use tools at my disposal to uncover an uncanny coincidence?

Commit to Pray

CPS hires an astounding 200 caseworkers every month. I thought it was a typo. It’s not.

The Screw

Ten years ago, my grandfather wrote a book called “Do You See What I See? Musings on Life at 83.” In the book are 723 entries; most only a few lines. Each one a perception, interpretation, reaction or comment. Entry number 714 stood out to me this morning, so I share it with you now: …

You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry

I can’t remember the last time I was so angry or frustrated. I received a call about a woman in our community who needed some help. We receive these calls often at the church–there’s a lot of need in our community and the fact of the matter is that we can’t help everyone we’d like…

There Won’t Be Enough Movie Nights

Aimee and I went on a daytime date on Sunday to see Avengers: Endgame. Again. I cried. Again. That’s not what this blog is about. We got home and my daughters wanted to know if we liked it, and why we wanted to see it a second time. I tried to explain it to them,…

Love Your Neighbor

“I’d like to ask you a few questions for a market research study.”…“How much longer will this take?” …“Oh it’s just a few more questions.”…Nobody would ever agree to do a 90 minute telephone survey….ever.

Totally Texas

Earlier this week, I learned something. In Norway, “Texas” has become a slang word that means insane, crazy, or chaotic—as in, “That’s totally Texas!” Supposedly, western movies were popular in Norway in the 1950’s and many of those movies that portrayed that wild and chaotic era featured Texas as the setting, thus giving birth to…

Slime? Why?

What is my kids’ fascination with slime? This year both of my daughters asked Santa for slime for Christmas. They asked for other things too, but slime was at the top of the list. When I think about slime, it’s hard to see past the obvious…it’s going to make a huge mess…it’s going to get…
