365 Fresh Starts

Ahhh, January. The month of setting a New Year’s resolution, choosing your word of the year, setting up new habits, cleaning out closets, reprioritizing, setting goals, etc. The list of “fresh start” types of things goes on and on. Some of us might be great at sticking to our “fresh start” ideas and others of us may have already gotten off track since the New Year began. Truth be told, I’m not a New Year’s resolution kind of girl. I’m the girl who will be off track from my healthy eating goal by the end of the day (this girl NEEDS a few pieces of chocolate to survive each day, regardless if it is healthy or not).

Although resolutions are not my thing, I do tend to be a “word of the year” kind of girl. However, I still haven’t picked my 2020 word yet. I have narrowed the list down to about 50 words, but I just can’t seem to land on one. On New Year’s Day, I saw a quote that I had seen before, but this time it spoke to me differently and it gave me a new idea for the year. It said “365 days means there are 365 new possibilities for how the New Year can go!” I do love that perspective. Each day we get another chance to try out something new, find a new way to make a difference in the world around us, a new chance to try out a different perspective, a new chance to meet another new person, and a new chance to change the way we are doing something. That sounds so much more exciting to me than setting one goal or one resolution for the year that I’ll mess up before February even begins.

So, I’ve decided that I’ll take my list of about 50 words and I’ll choose a new word for each week.  I suppose that also means that my overarching word of the year is “New”. I can’t wait to see what happens! I wonder if you’ll choose a word, a resolution, a goal, or a theme for the year. I’d love to hear about it!
