Deacons are called to be witnesses to God’s love and active presence in the World. We are called to participate in God’s work by being active in the World working for healing, justice and peace. However, we are also called to be witnesses to the Church regarding the needs of the world. My job title at Project Transformation Central Texas (PTCT) is Director of Operations, and there is nothing in my job description that requires a clergyperson to fill this role. I see my presence at PTCT as a reminder to the Church and a witness to the World of the reality of God’s presence in all places, with all people, and in all circumstances. My role is to help make space for the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of those we serve. My great joy is having the privilege of witnessing transformation in the lives of our children and young adults. Then, I am called to share what I’ve witnessed to the Church and then invite the Church to participate in God’s work. I do this by teaching Sunday school classes, leading small groups, speaking to current and potential partner churches, and recruiting volunteers.
